Side effect of select diseases and infections; Dry mouth can be a side effect of healthcare conditions, including Sjogren's syndrome ("Sicca syndrome"), HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer's, diabetic issues, anemia, CF or cystic fibrosis, arthritis rheumatoid, high blood pressure, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and mumps or epidemic parotitis.
Side effect of select treatments; marring the salivary glands, the glands that produce saliva, for instance, from radiation to the head and of course neck and chemotherapy remedies for cancer can
lessen what amount saliva produced.
Nerve damage; Dry mouth can be a result of nerve damage to the head and neck area caused from an injury or possibly surgery.Dehydration; Circumstances contributing to dehydration, for example, fever, sweating in excess or hyperhidrosis, throwing up, diarrhea, hemorrhaging or blood loss, as well as burns, can cause dry mouth. Surgically removing the salivary glands;
Diet and lifestyle;
Smoking or maybe chewing tobacco can affect saliva formation and aggravate dry mouth.
Continuously breathing with the mouth open can also contribute to the problem.
