How To Naturally Reduce Acne With Essential Oils

Think about how amazing your skin actually is. It ranges from durable heel skin to delicate eyelid skin, it protects the rest of your body from the outside world, and it helps your body rid itself of toxins. With everything your skin goes through, it’s understandable it sometimes breaks out in acne. Okay, well maybe not understandable, but it happens. The key to fixing this is a consistent, gentle skin care routine.  Let’s take a look at how essential oils can make your skin look as amazing as it actually is.

People also say this essential oil is “more lemony than lemon.” It has a wonderful citrus smell that is said to help ease fatigue. Lemon Myrtle helps acne by fighting the bacteria that causes the infection in your clogged pore. This reduces inflammation and heals your skin.

Sandalwood is an amazing essential oil that works wonders for acne. Its anti-inflammatory effects help calm skin irritations, and that allows it to work as an antibacterial to get rid of the bacteria on your face. Especially Probionbacterium acnes, a bacteria that causes the formation of pus in pimples. Sandalwood oil soothes skin and promotes a healthy balance of oil, so your face doesn’t over-produce it. It also has a beautiful, warm fragrance that is said to rid anxiety and help lift depression.

Other treatments are also effective at getting rid of Probionbacterium acnes, like Benzoyl peroxide. This is a very common acne treatment, but unfortunately it also has some major side effects. Some studies have linked Benzoyl peroxide to the promotion of free radicals. This is similar to the effect of seeing too much sun, without the protection of sunblock. This causes cell damage that wreaks havoc on your skin. Benzoyl peroxide commonly causes irritation, something we know isn’t good for skin! It can also dry skin out, which sends sebum glands into overdrive produces extra oil.

Other ingredients that are common in acne treatments and cleansers in general are alkyl sufates. Known more commonly as “sulfates,” these are present in skin and hair care products, dishwashing and laundry detergents, even engine greasers! These are in many commercial cleaning products because they are powerful and cheap cleansers, but this is precisely why you don’t want them in your skin care products. Sulfates strip your skin and hair of the natural oils they need.

The reason products using natural ingredients, like essential oils, work so well is they don’t contain all the cheap, harsh chemicals other product contain. Benzoyl peroxide and sulfates may accomplish some of the things Lemon Myrtle and Sandalwood oil do, but with side effects that create even more problems for your skin. Essential oils can give you all the benefits, while remaining gentle on your skin.
